There are many facets to Ken Nicol's music, and those that really sparkle here are his ability to write complex melodies, his ability to play those complex melodies and make it sound effortless, and his inventive way with a lyric (something that's often missed in the rush to admire his playing). Yes, the instrumental tracks are simply stunning, but the songs are pretty wonderful, too - whether it's the semi-autobiographical pieces 'Til The English Summer's Gone and The Road Beneath My Wheels or his amusing ode to a special little lady in his life, Oh Mavis.
If you've seen Ken playing solo, and wondered which one of his many great CDs to purchase first - this is it.
